Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Werner Schmidt, Universitäts Frauenklinik in Homburg

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Werner Schmidt (October 5, 1943 at Waghaeusel, Germany), is a former professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. Schmidt was a long time director of the Women’s Clinic (Frauenklinik) at Saarland University Hospital in Homburg/Saar (21 years).

Early life
Schmidt was born at Waghäusel near Bruchsal/Baden and studied medicine at Frankfurt and Heidelberg. He remained in Heidelberg to continue his scientific training and earned his habilitation (PhD) in Gynecology in 1982.

Honors
Professor Schmidt has received several honorary doctorates. In recognition of his efforts in continuing medical education he was honored by the German Medical Association with the Ernst-von-Bergmann-Emblem and he received in 1999 the honorary doctorates from the Semmelweis University in Budapest and Iuliu Hatieganu University in Cluj / Romania.

Schmidt is an honorary member of the Hungarian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and served for many years as a president of the German-Spanish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Since 2000 he is an active member of the ethics committee of the Saarland Medical Association.
